Tangent Precipitate
|
A solo experimental project, of usually improvised music of different forms. I attempt to pull together elements in sound and music that interest me and excite my head to create work that is an original synthesis, and to try and capture the raw creative moment as well as I can. (more info)
This project has now been wound up and replaced with The Unknown Rockstar for the instrumental music, and Tangent has been revived for electronic music..

within the range of hearing
A mixture of sample based styles, some sequenced, some more abstract. wood, brass, nylon part 2 (reclining remix) is a very beautiful remix of a guitar track from an earlier Tangent Precipitate album

Disturbed Bits 6-10
Disturbed Bits is a series of long pieces of beautiful and intense power electronics. They investigate the ability of the juxtaposition of treated loops of different varieties to create resultant sounds that are different in character from the source material, perhaps "greater than the sum of it's parts" as it were. This is the second five I recorded, with quite different software to the first five, although some similar ideas. They tend to be shorter pieces than the first five.
Broken Aesthetic
An album of electronic and electro-accoustic music. Ranges for more chilled out pieces such as the static meditation of Tuning Into Your Own Frequency to the full overdriven loops sound of Broken Aesthetic.

Alone with my feelings - 1:37
Drifting tones describe a slow journey through an introspective moment.
Dark adult pleasures, snake music, magic - 7:44
A piece of beats based music, that uses filter work, delay twiddling, and distortion to bring together a song that will romp all over your speakers.
I shall serenade her - 0:48
A piece of improvised free accoustic guitar work that draws on influences of both contempory classical and free jazz, as well as the romanticism of folk and gypsy music.
The small continuum - 12:20
The vocals of this piece draw upon the disechantedness of John Lydon and the disgustedness of Genisys P-Orridge to compliment the disturbing, shimmering, echoing guitar tracks in a piece that explores depths of pain and cynicism that Throbbing Gristle first plumbed.
Celebration in the salt mines - 1:13
A folky, rustic sounding piece of woodwind improvisation that is in the tonality of a previous century.
Total self control? - 20:13
An enormous, creeping melange of scary beats, quivering tones, tingly glass tones, and other sounds that propels and mutates to a atmospheric finish.
A severe lack of direction - 3:34
A synth drum loop drives along this song of jamming guitar, and haunting atonal tin whistle.
The path of desire - 6:41
Slow mutant blues jam, a beauteous piece with a ponderous bass vaguely reminescent of Killdozer, a classic piece of skewed blues psychedelic guitar, hand drums, and a meandering sample treatment. I want things when I listen to this song.
I'll have pleasure over meaning anyday - 1:11
Bizarre no-wave thrashy punk about the virtues of leaving language and the structure of our modern society, and returning to the behaviour patterns we evolved with.

Disturbed Bits 1-5
Disturbed Bits is a series of long pieces of beautiful and intense power electronics. They investigate the ability of the juxtaposition of treated loops of different varieties to create resultant sounds that are different in character from the source material, perhaps "greater than the sum of it's parts" as it were. The first five were based alot in the power of running sounds over top of themselves to bring out certain interesting and powerful parts of them, long and involved explorations

erosion - 15:19
Burbling water sounds, drawn out wind sounds and other organic noise combine to give an impression of the forces of nature at work.
information gathering exercise - 9:20
lost data transmission - 14:27
Great hooting loops slowly fade out to leave great long creepy echoey low tones and squealing squelching squalling synth tones.
recalibration - 7:09
Pretty synth loops contrast against long slow hissy but bassy wind style noises that give way to resonant squeals and long synth groans.
encounter - 8:27
stolen data - 13:00

failed perpetual motion machine #001 - 9:37
Shimmering drones and mindbending, menacing loops that warp and mutate describe an attempt to cheat the basic laws of thermodynamics through all means imaginable and unimaginable (an occasional series).
I think I'm getting it together now(midpoint of a journey) - 8:24
Beautiful twin guitar piece that moves from a rocking jammy riff into an slow atmospheric looping passage. With an atonal, tribal wind track.
digital ebola analogue - 12:57
Electronic sounds and wind are combined to create a mood of sick despair, decay, and a paranoid feeling of weakness and aloneness. Draws on the influence of Throbbing Gristle, and of primitive, tribal music.
failed perpetual motion machine #002 - 11:03
Multilayered tonal and atonal samples and noise, and tortured and changing loops describe an attempt to cheat the basic laws of thermodynamics through all means imaginable and unimaginable (an occasional series).
where we are (we are! we are!) - 19:07
The haunting call of a lost tribe in the depths of heat fever. A treated loop and improvisational wind make for an evocative and atmospheric piece.
